Meet the Flock

For over 10 years now we have raised sheep, but only in the last 8 have we settled on the Katahdin sheep breed to pursue long term success. Our production focuses on producing high quality lambs and sheep for sale as breeding stock, meat consumption, or for 4-H purposes. Katahdins are an excellent "hair breed" sheep, which means instead of producing wool, they produce a coarse hair that sheds off every year. They have amazing parasite resistance and are awesome mothers. In addition to these qualities, they also excel in foraging on the different species that we have here in Northern Michigan, not only our grasses and alfalfa, but invasives like Autumn Olives.

On our farm, we rotationally graze our flock in order to promote soil and animal health together. This assures us a sustainable forage supply but also supports biodiversity in our grazing areas. This practice greatly increases our ability to manage the productivity of our land, which God has blessed us with.

We invite you to come and visit our flock and see our farm, but only by appointment, so please contact us if you'd like to see them. This helps us preserve our families privacy, but also practice good biosecurity, disease mitigation, and flock health.

Katahdin sheep are renowned for their high quality, mild tasting meat, which is naturally tender and flavorful. Unlike wool breeds, hair sheep do not produce lanolin, a oil that wool breeds produce to protect their wool. However, this can sometimes impart a stronger flavor to lamb, which is something some people like, and some don't.

This makes our meat more appealing to a wider range of consumers who are perhaps new to introducing lamb to their diet.

So if you're looking for a premium, grass-fed, high quality meat, that is both nutritious and delicious, you've come to the right place! Please review our pricing and contact information below and we look forward to serving you!

Lamb Cost Breakdown

We sell our lamb by the whole, or half animal. For smaller portions such as quarters or individual cuts, please contact us to discuss.

We also sell our lambs by the live weight, which may seem unusual for some who are familiar with the cost/meat share model, but this ensures that we, the farmers, are being paid fairly for the entirety of the animal, including the head, hide, feet, and organs that typically would be considered waste by the majority of consumers, and slaughterhouses.

The benefit of this model for consumers is a lower per pound price, as well as the benefit of choosing whether or not to receive the above parts for your use or consumption. If you are interested in receiving any of these parts or products from your share, you'll need to inform us in advance so that they are not thrown out. â€‹

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us to discuss and we'll be happy to assist you. Thanks!
